When studying history, it is important to understand the size of the countries within the topic. Many maps were produced by Europeans, (history is written by the winners), so are not accurate. An example is Great Britain. It is always the wrong size on maps! Furthermore, a world map generally has Europe in the centre, illustrating the importance of the continent. Africa is also far larger than what most people perceive. Below are two very interesting links for analysing the geography of the world. The first allows you to compare the size of two countries and the second gives you a fascinating insight into how large Africa is.
